PDF Patterns

PAPER SIZE:

Dress Pattern Studio makes patterns that can be printed on A4 or US Letter size. They also come in a full-size version which you can take to the copy shop and get printed on an A0-sized sheet of paper (84.1 x 118.9 cm) or a U.S Copyshop sized piece of paper (36 inch by 48 inches).

LAYERS:

Our downloadable patterns have embedded layers which means that you can select only the size/s you need to print. You need to install Adobe Reader to access the layer selection feature.

You can get Adobe PDF Reader here.

Open the adobe reader and select the ‘layers’ option on the left-hand side menu.

There will be an eye symbol next to each visible layer in the pattern. You can hide any layer you do not wish to view by deselecting (clicking off) the eye for that layer.

The layer titled ‘PATTERN INFO’ needs to be on for all sizes. It indicates the information you need like cutting instructions etc. Please do not turn off “Pattern Info”.

SCALING:

Once the pattern is open in Adobe Reader you will need to check the scale. Before printing the whole file, check the scaling settings on your printer. The pattern needs to be printed at its true size without any scaling. To do this, go into your print settings and select ‘actual size’ or set page scaling to ‘none’ or ‘turn off page scaling.’

Print only page 1 of the pattern and check that the large test square measures exactly 10cm x 10cm or that the small test square measures 2 inches x 2 inches. The square needs to be exactly the measurement indicated. If not, adjust your printer settings until you reach your desired measurement.

PRINT:

When you have the scaling right, you can print the rest of the pattern. When printing from Adobe Reader, make sure that the print orientation is set to “Auto portrait/landscape”  this will make sure that the information on the page borders are printed.

ASSEMBLING:

Align the diamonds on the edges of the pages to each other following the key A1 with A2, A2 with A3, etc, and tape together. Use the printing plan for each download type (A4, U.S Letter, U.S Copyshop, or A0 Copyshop sizes) as a guide.
